Rank algorithm update from google weeded out a lot of good or bad websites, the reason cited is that google wanted to provide more relevant results, on official google blog it is estimated 11.8% search results will be affected by this update, say it another way, almost 12% of google search results are useless or of low quality. Google started this change almost one year ago, maybe that’s why some of my ranks dropped out of first 10 pages, on the other hand almost all keywords promoted by contextual links are not affected, some of the keywords even ranked better than before, it’s almost a sure thing that plain link building loses all it’s attraction, at least in the eye of google.
Now what on earth is plain link building and how do people do it? a large percentage of SEO firms will do this, they put your links on websites which only exist for holding links, the only updates on those websites are the new links, it’s safe to assume all of them are trash, the name of link spamming sites is justified. Now google algorithm probably will weed out these sites, the links on those spamming sites won’t work anymore.
A few real world examples will help to explain what I said. Now contextual links win the battle, then what? In fact the only thing matters here is content, as long as you dole out high quality content, you will attract readers as well as search engines. As far as SEO concerned, quality blog marketing is much better than plain link building. At the end of day all you have to do is to create attractive content, share the content with people, promote your business with the content, this strategy will prevail in short or long term.
